Stop Suicide & Suicide Prevention – Kearney Dancing with the Stars “3”

A coalition of Buffalo County Community Partners: Hope & Healing, McKenna’s Rae of Hope and Central Nebraska Loss.  By partnering with these organizations our goal is to instill hope and healing by empowering mental wellness to save lives and to reduce suicide in Buffalo County with a focus on education, prevention, intervention, and mental wellness promotion.

If you or someone you know are having thoughts of suicide, you are not alone. Someone is always available to listen. Hope is just a call or text away.

As a community, Buffalo County has decided to take a stand against the stigma surrounding mental health. Together, we can become a community connected for mental wellness. Our community’s response chooses hope and healing as the means to recovery. Hope and healing empower connectedness and support at a community level to reduce suicide and promote mental wellness for everyone in Buffalo County.

Founded in 2017, the foundation is dedicated to making changes in the hopes of creating a more positive and healthy community with the mission of preventing teen suicide by fostering awareness, resilience, and social change. Being kinder, recognizing mental illness, opening up the conversation, and making our world a little more hopeful is the organization’s goal.

The Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team consists of trained survivor and mental health professionals acting as volunteers to bring immediate support to survivors of suicide. Suicide survivors are those persons who have had a loved one complete a suicide and are at risk due to their emotional response, which may include the use of unhealthy coping strategies or attempting suicide themselves.

The LOSS Team is activated by first response officials when a suicide occurs to provide resources, support, and hope to suicide survivors. The volunteers provide immediate assistance to survivors to help them cope with the trauma of their loss, provide follow-up contact with the survivors, and coordinate the utilization of services and support groups within the community.
